Jon Holder, Esquire

Jon Holder received his JD degree from the University of Maine School of Law in 1976.  After working for a local law firm Jon established his own private practice dedicated to representing individual plaintiffs.  Among the insurance companies he has sued on behalf of his clients are: UnumProvident Corporation, Unum Life Insurance Company of America, Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company, and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.  Most of Attorney Holder’s clients are referred by other attorneys because of his nationally recognized expertise in the complex and difficult area of employee benefits law under the Federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) where litigation is all too frequently governed by ever changing unwritten rules applicable to no other area of Federal Law.  Click on the following link for a feature article appearing in the Los Angeles Times involving the typical experiences of one of our clients who became totally disabled with MS but was repeatedly denied benefits by her insurance company, UnumProvident. To view the article go to our "In The News" page.

Attorney Holder also filed the first class action complaint against UnumProvident for unlawful claim denials.  He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Federal Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington D.C., the First Circuit Court of Appeals, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and Federal District Courts for the Eastern District of Tennessee, the Northern District of Ohio, and the District of Maine.

Kathleen Grover, Esq.

Kathleen Grover graduated from the University of Maine School of Law in 1978.  Upon graduation she wrote and won grants to start a federally funded disability law project.  She subsequently formed a partnership with Jon Holder and the law firm became Holder & Grover PA.  Attorney Grover’s area of expertise is in representing Social Security disability claimants, a practice which for practical reasons is limited to the representation of Maine claimants.

Attorney Grover testified before the Senate Subcommittee responsible for Social Security legislation.  Prior to her testimony Social Security was able to terminate benefits without notice or a chance to appeal the decision before losing their financial lifeline.  Attorney Grover proposed that the burden of proof be changed to rest on the Social Security Administration requiring it to show that vocationally relevant medical improvement had been made before a claimant’s benefits could be cut off.  This proposal was enacted into law and the wholesale termination of benefits by the Social Security Administration without evidence or proof ended.
